Project Managers

We are the National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability team, or NEAS!
We manage major environmental risks. We embed the Environment Agency (EA) environmental and sustainability aims in supporting the delivery of a project programme, primarily in relation to Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) schemes.
We ensure key strategic plans and programmes deliver for the environment and achieve sustainable outcomes, by managing the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the EA key relevant Strategies and Plans.
We collaborate with colleagues and suppliers, to support the delivery of our programme of projects. We provide environmental and sustainability advice, supporting and integrating the delivery of the outcomes, and identifying, managing, designing out or mitigating environmental risks that could prevent or delay project delivery.
We manage the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of all the Agency’s large, high risk capital flood risk projects.
Working collaboratively with our suppliers to ensure environmental assessment is proportionate, we influence project business cases, options selection, design and the final project outcomes, and secure the required consents and approvals.
We support project team engagement with stakeholders, particularly on environmental matters, with communities, partner organisations and regulators.
Working with suppliers and other EA colleagues, we ensure environmental impacts are managed, using the mitigation hierarchy (avoid, reduce, mitigate, compensate), and that our schemes achieve environmental gains and benefits.
See below an inspiring example of an innovative Natural Flood Management (NFM) project, underpinning much of the ethos that NEAS adopts:
